State of Michigan Notice Regarding Federal Unemployment Extensions

Below is the official email I received this morning regarding unemployment extensions it has a lot more detail and some extra resources like the Michigan Bridge Card if you are still unemployed when unemployment runs out.  If you registered with Marvin Online you will get a message like this to the email you registered with.

NOTICE REGARDING FEDERAL UNEMPLOYMENT EXTENSIONS

You have received this notice as a user of the Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency’s (UIA) claim portal.  If you are currently receiving unemployment benefits, this notice provides important information regarding the extensions.

Unemployment Extensions

The current federal extensions – Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) and Extended Benefits (EB), as well as the Federal Additional Compensation (FAC) extra $25 per week – will begin to phase-out on November 30, 2010.  At this time, it is uncertain whether there will be any more federal extensions.  If further extensions are enacted, you will be notified.  If you are currently receiving:

*   Regular state unemployment – You will continue to receive your remaining weeks of benefits.  If your last week of benefits is November 20, you may apply for EUC Tier 1 the week of November 21.  If your last week of benefits is between November 21 and December 25, you may apply for EB.  However, the last week you may be paid EB is January 1.
*   EUC Tiers 1 through 4 – You will continue collecting on your current tier.  If your last week of benefits on Tier 1 through 3 is November 27, you may go to the next tier.  If your last week of benefits on Tier 4 is December 4, you may apply for EB.   However, the last week you may be paid EB is January 1.
*   EB – You will continue collecting on EB until payment for week ending January 1.
*   FAC – the extra $25 per week – you will continue to receive this payment until payment for the week of December 11.

Unless the November 30 expiration date is extended once again, only Michigan’s regular state unemployment, which pays a maximum of 26 weeks of benefits, will remain.  For more information about the current federal extensions click on http://www.michigan.gov/documents/uia/Extended_Benefits_in_Michigan_Fact_Sheet_122_267185_7.pdf for information on Extended Benefits in Michigan and  http://www.michigan.gov/documents/uia/EUC_Fact_Sheet_120_240939_7.pdf for information on Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) in Michigan.
