Facebook Facial Recognition

Facebook’s facial recognition system is probably not good for you if you hope to land a new job. Not only is the system creepy but it can put you in quite the predicament. Facebook’s recognition software recognizes what you look like the more pictures you have been tagged in. For all of the teens putting large amounts of pictures on Facebook and wanting to be able to tag everyone this feature is great. Especially if you don’t feel you have the time then this feature is great because it suggests auto tags for you. Here is the dilemma:

You are out of the house and one of your Facebook buddies uploads pictures of the party you went to over the weekend. You drank or worse and look a little out of it. The moment that picture hits the web you get tagged with your name. Hilarious of course until you realize that said Facebook friend allows the entire internet to view photos uploaded. Since you were out of the house you were unable to un-tag yourself for 8 hours. Nothing like trying to land a career with evidence that suggests you might have a hard time making it in to work on a Monday.

Landing a job doesn’t have anything to do with what you know or even who you know. Landing a job has to do with who knows you. Now if your potential future boss finds incriminating photos of you online then how they know you or what they know about you may be different than how you want to be represented in a professional setting.

The point is if you are out there trying to control your web presence then I would highly suggest that you disable this feature for your benefit. Its rather simple but because Mark Zuckerberg thinks like the Google founders that if you don’t want to be seen doing stupid stuff then you shouldn’t do stupid stuff, he failed to give instructions on how to protect yourself.
