New Year, New Employment Laws
With the New Year many news laws are officially taking effect. Job seekers have a few new laws to be aware of as 2012 gets started.
Minimum Wage Increases for:
- Arizona
- Oregon
- Washington
- Montana
- Colorado
- Ohio
- Vermont
Workers in San Fransisco will be the first in the nation to be earning over $10 an hour at a rate at 10.24 an hour. Far above the national rate of $7.25.
Federal
Unemployment and some tax cuts are being backed by a 0.1 percent raise in mortgage insurance fees.
Michigan
Newly unemployed workers will only have 20 weeks of unemployment down from 26 weeks. Some workers may have as few at 10 weeks.
The State of Wisconsin adopted a measure to put a one week delay on unemployment before workers can get a paycheck. The move was done to reduce unemployment payments, and is expected to save the State about $45 million in payments.
Employment Eligibility
E-Verify is essentially required in Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, and California to be employed.
