Arizona Identity Verification with ID.Me
The state of Arizona has revamped how to verify your identity for unemployment benefits payments for the Arizona unemployment insurance benefits system.
Due to rampant unemployment fraud, the state created new verification of identity of unemployment claims.
It started requiring mandatory identity verification for new unemployment claims, and in many cases requiring open claims to verify, or re-verify their identity to the Idaho Unemployment Insurance benefits system.
Understandably this still had some exposed weakness like identity verification in Vegas Vacation.
How do I register for Arizona Identity Verification with Id.Me?
If you are filing an initial claim or weekly certification in the PUA Portal:
Once you click the link to file a weekly certification or initial claim, you will see a page with instructions for verifying your identity, including a link directing you to ID.me. Follow the emailed link to verify your identity with ID.me.
- If you are able to complete identity verification online, you can continue filing your new claim or weekly certification with the Arizona Department of Economic Security (DES). Make sure that after you complete your verification, you click Allow to share your information with DES. (See example screenshot below.)
- If you verified your identity with a Trusted Referee, log back in to the PUA Portal to continue your claim or certification. When you click the ID.me link, you should log in to ID.me with your existing ID.me credentials. When prompted, click Allow to share your information with DES. (See example screenshot above.) You will NOT need to complete the entire verification process again.
You will need:
- An email address that you have full and ideally sole access too
- Smart phone with camera
- Computer or laptop is optional
- You will also need your form of identification acceptable forms of identification are

How do I upload identification documents to ID.me?
First get all of your pieces of documentation ready for your video call, so you can get this process over with as soon as possible.
What if my DES claim is inactive?
If you have not previously verified your identity and have not filed a weekly certification for the last two benefit weeks, you will receive a message on the page that your claim is inactive. Click the link provided to complete the reopening process. During the reopening process, you will be directed to verify your identity with ID.me.
If you do not receive a prompt to verify your identity, even after reopening your claim, you will need to contact the DES Unemployment Insurance Call Center at 1-833-360-1334.
Now that I verified with Id.me what is next?
After you are verified, you have to share your identity status with the DES.
Then you have to file a weekly certification or initial claim, you should continue to verify your unemployment status for every period.
