Funny: No Power = No Gas

The storm the other day that I wrote about, here, caused wide spread power outages in the surrounding area of the gas station. The gas station somehow never really lost power during the storm so the next morning when everyone else was scurrying around trying to figure out how to prevent their freezers from thawing and having the ability to cook food the whole neighborhood decided to go to the gas station. As can be imagined this made the station very busy so I was called into work early as usual. So the gas station that has been extremely busy all day long lost power just as I arrive. Since we are not sure when the power will come back on I get to sit in the dark and write everything down that people buy and use the calculator to figure out what people owe.

This is fine I can handle dealing with irate people who are mad at me for not being able to charge their 99 cent bottle of water.  But what really started to get on my nerves is the people who assume they can pump gas despite the lack of power. I asked my boss what I could do to deal with these people. Needless to say I went outside and removed the prices off the sign. I now wonder if anyone looks at the price of gas or if my station is in such a privileged area that it’s irrelevant the price of gas because this didn’t seem to deter anyone from attempting to get gas.

Now that the power has been out for a couple of hours and I’m about sick of dealing with people I decided that it was time to put signs out on the pump that say, “No Power, Store cash only.” Well apparently this wasn’t specific enough because then I had people coming into the store and requesting $20 on pump 3 and $5 on pump 6. When I tell these individuals that without power I can’t operate the pumps they got mad at me and said my notes outside were deceptive.

It was time for the last phase of my cruel deceptive ways. I promptly went outside to change my note to No Power = NO GAS! I had people come into the store furious that I wouldn’t sell them gas even though I was aware that everyone in the surrounding area was without power. Clearly I’m a cruel person… no way these people are stupid… I’m just evil!
