Part Time Job With MARVIN

A question that is often asked of unemployment is: Can I work while collecting unemployment?

In Michigan the answer is yes, but there are some stipulations.

If you have a full time regular job, then you cannot collect unemployment.  If you are working on a contract, or part time job you should still qualify for MARVIN.

When you certify or call MARVIN you will state that you are not back to full time work, but you do have reported earnings;which you’ll enter whatever amount you earned.

MARVIN will calculate your earnings at $0.50 on the dollar, so you can increase your take home money for the week you worked.

Stipulations

If you report that you earned $700 for one week, and $500 for another week, your MARVIN payment will be on hold.  The unemployment system automatically flags your wage as being suspect thinking you are in fact back to work full time.

This isn’t a problem per se but you will be required to speak to a live UIA representative about your earnings situation before you get any MARVIN benefit payment.

According to the MARVIN information it is possible that your eligibility for unemployment benefits will be reduced by 1 week for each week that you report earnings.
