Michigan Law protects Social Media Passwords

Today Governor Synder signed House Bill 5523 into law as Public Act 478.  The law now prohibits job applicants from being required to give up passwords to social networking sites.

The move should stop employers from requiring or asking for social networking passwords as part of the job application process.

Employers who do can be fined $1,000 per incident and it is considered a misdemeanor.

If you are in Michigan and your future employer wants your password to your Twitter, or Facebook tell them it is against the law.
