Michigan could Raise Minimum Wage

After the Presidents State of the Union Speech there has been some talk about increasing the minimum wage across the country.  A Michigan Senator Bert Johnson, D-Detroit has voiced his backing of a move to increase the minimum wage in the state from $7.40 to $10 an hour by 2016.  Michigan currently one of 19 states that are above the Federal minimum wage that is set at $7.25 an hour.

In the past couple of years states have been seen raising their minimum wage rates, at the  start of 2013 there were 10 states that increased their hourly rates.  Washington state was leading at $9.19 per hour, and the city of San Fransisco, California sets a local rate of $10.55 an hour leading the country for the highest hourly minimum wage.
