Emergency Unemployment Expired
For roughly 1.1 million long term unemployed workers the Federal Emergency unemployment benefits have expired. More discouragingly the fact is that if you have been unemployed longer than 6 months you are more likely to be discriminated against when you are searching for work.
A recent experiment showing long term unemployment on a resume resulted in a low 1 to 3% callback rate, compared to 9-16 % for recently unemployed resumes submitted to companies.
It is very evident that you need to craft a great resume, and be very aggressive in your job search as soon as you believe you may be a candidate for a corporate downsizing. Don’t be afraid to look at job postings here or start looking at ways to strengthen your professional network on Linkedin to help soften the blow of a layoff.
