Air Force Layoffs Land in Michigan

The Air Force has announced that it is planning on layoffs that will affect up to 850 full time and part-time workers at Selfridge Air National Guard Base and Kellogg Air Guard Station in Battle Creek.

Part of the move is the result of the Air Force’s change in strategy for the location of A-10’s at Selfridge and moving four more KC-135’s to the base.

The Michigan bases are not the only locations affected President Obama’s proposed budget, calls for the Air Force to reduce 9,900 jobs and head count to be reduced to 501,000.  The net reductions work out to 3,900 Active Duty, 5,100 Air National Guard and 900 Air Force Reserve personnel.
