The final nail is almost through Blockbuster’s coffin

A little over 3 years ago we published a story on how creative destruction had claimed Blockbuster Video as a victim.  It had a few minor repairs to patch it along a few months longer each time.

The most significant was when Dish Network purchased Blockbuster Video out of bankruptcy. This week the final nail in the coffin for Blockbuster has nearly been hammered.  Dish Network will close about 300 stores down from the 1,700 it acquired back in 2011 for $320 million from Chapter 11 bankruptcy.   All of the online rental services will be shut down as well from Blockbuster’s DVD by mail service.

The nail isn’t hammered in place as there are still about 50 independent franchise locations that may stay open on their own.
